About us

We are a family run business started by Edmund Baron in the early 1960s and continued today by his son Jim and wife Ann.

Originally, the focus was to rear poults in the summer months which could be sold on to other farmers for killing at Christmas. Gradually as the business expanded, year round rearing of stag poults for some of our customers was added but competition with larger producers and imports of cheaper product made this no longer viable.

Today though the core rearing for Christmas has declined, we continue to offer this service and deliver to many parts of the country where numbers permit. We also rear both male and female poults on contract for Shoby poultry throughout the year.

Our rearing sheds are all purpose built, fitted with semi automatic lighting, heating, ventilation, feeding and watering systems. Many years experience of rearing turkeys has meant that we can rear a strong, well grown, healthy poult that can be successfully moved to a range of different rearing situations and grown on to make a well finished bird for Christmas.

Day old poults of various breeds are purchased from 2 main hatcheries. All poults are sexed, beak lasered and kept in separate sheds according to breed. Most poults are ready for sale between 5 and 6 weeks old when they are easily moved in crates and adapt quickly to a new environment. They will be off heat in our sheds but may require it depending where they are moving to. As any change is quite stressful it is worth providing heat for a few days to ease the transition, if this is an option.

We are happy to sell any quantity of poults but can only offer a delivery service for orders greater than 100 poults. There may be opportunity to join orders together and deliver to an area where birds can be collected from 1 location. Poults can be collected from the farm by prior arrangement. We are easy to find by car, being within 5 mins of the M56 and M6 in North Cheshire just close to the A49.
