Turkey Breeds
The breeds we offer fall into the categories small, medium and large for hen poults.
White birds are available in all 3 categories. White stag poults are also reared to give extra large catering size birds.
Coloured poults (bronze/black) come as large and medium hens and large (stags).
The small breed is the Attleborough Small White which has proved to be easy to rear for a small breed with good finish and perfect for dressed birds in the range 4 to 5 kgs average.
For medium sized poults we rear a mixture of Holly Berry 92 and Holly Berry 91 to give dressed weights of 6 to 7 kgs average.
Large birds are Wirral Supreme and the larger Premium commercial breed. The Wirral Supreme white should achieve dressed weights averaging 8 kgs and the Premium 12 kgs plus. We can offer Wirral black and Hockenhull Black hens to give dressed birds in the range 6 to 7 kgs.
For larger weights we offer black or bronze stag poults. These weights are a rough guide based on figures provided by the hatcheries and are dependant on good husbandry using proprietary feeds.
Several of our customers rear their birds outside and many use their own feedstuffs in which case the weights may vary from those shown.
The Price List table summarises the breeds available as growers aged 5 to 6 weeks .
