2023 Newsletter

Spring is most definitely here.

Our swallows have returned and the hedgerows are green again. The farm garden is colourful with bulbs and shrubs and the sun, when it appears has real warmth.

We have escaped the ravages of Avian Influenza but recently succumbed to Covid 19 for the first time.

The world is in turmoil but we are thankful to have food to eat, a roof over our heads and the means and freedom to live the life we choose.

Our plan is to rear and sell growers for the Christmas farm fresh trade as in previous years. The feedback from our regular customers about the weights and quality of the poults we sold last year was very good.

The Black/Bronze birds particularly have grown in popularity. The commercial large female birds are now too big for most people and we have reduced the number of these, increasing the Wirral Supreme breed.

Other breeds and the dates for delivery or collection remain similar to last year.

The biggest change is in the price .Unfortunately costs have risen in every area of the business though we have tried to keep them as low as possible without making a loss. We employ 1 person who has worked for us for nearly 40 years and whom many of you will have met when your poults are delivered. Jim and I don’t cost our labour ,viewing the deliveries we do as days out and the rearing as our retirement hobby!

We feel the Christmas trade is still a viable and attractive market though end prices will have to rise as with most other foods .

Hopefully we will meet you this season, whether here on the farm or on our delivery days. As always we are happy to answer any queries on the phone or through email. Please note our email has changed to baronturkeys13@gmail.com
